Our planners are constantly looking for ways to maximize UTA’s budget to serve the most riders. Most recently, they’ve identified possible ways to improve route 72 by eliminating a lesser-used section of the route and using funding saved to add more morning and evening trips. Although this proposed change doesn’t legally require a public hearing, UTA planners want rider input. Please email your feedback to lmasic@rideuta.com. If approved, the proposed changes would be implemented starting in August.

Proposed Action

UTA planners are considering ending route 72 service between the Cottonwood Corporate Center at 2855 East Cottonwood Parkway and the 6200 South Park & Ride. Service east of 3000 East would be eliminated.

Rationale

  • Ridership between 3000 East and the 6200 South Park & Ride is low. Only 2 to 3 percent of route 72 riders board in that area.
  • Eliminating the easternmost portion of the route would allow planners to add four early weekday trips and two evening weekday trips to the remainder of route 72 at no additional cost.
  • Route connections can be made at other locations. Routes 354, 953, and 972 connect to route 72 at the 6200 South Park & Ride. If route 72 service is changed, all connections can be made at other locations:

Route 354: Connection to route 72 available at Fort Union Blvd and 2700 East.

Route 953: Connection to route 72 available at Fort Union Blvd and 3000 East.

Route 972: Connection to route 72 available at Fort Union Blvd and Highland Drive.
