Major Area Changes

We’re adding, adjusting and expanding service across the region. Take a look at the changes going into effect August 11, 2019.


Downtown Salt Lake City Local

  • Route 2 will have extended hours of service on all days: 15-minute service on weekdays and Saturdays, and 30-minute service on Sundays. In conjunction with route 220, buses will run every 7 minutes on 200 South between Salt Lake Central Station and 1300 East.
  • Route 3 will move to North Temple Station.
  • Route 6 will move to Salt Lake Central Station and be offset with route 11 to provide 15-minute service during rush hour between Salt Lake Central Station and LDS Hospital.
  • Customers who currently catch route 200 in downtown to Harmons/City Creek should take routes 6/11 instead.
  • New route 4 will serve 400 South and Foothill Drive between Poplar Grove and Olympus Cove.

Downtown Salt Lake City Commuter

  • Route 3 will move to North Temple Station to provide a better connection to Research Park from both directions of FrontRunner.
  • Route 220 will move to 200 South to offset route 2. This will provide 7-8 minute service between Salt Lake Central and the University of Utah.
  • Route 500 will be replaced by 15-minute service on route 200. Route 200 will move to North Temple Station and serve the State Capitol on weekdays only.

Tooele County

  • Route 451 hours of service will be expanded slightly. The first 451 trip in the morning will arrive to downtown Salt Lake City at the same time it does now.
  • Current route 453 stops on Main St. in Tooele will be added to route 451. Stops on Country Club Drive in Stansbury Park will not be served by any route.
  • Route 454 service will increase from one trip each direction to five. Route 454 will serve Lakepoint Junction, the International Center, Salt Lake International Airport, and destinations along North Temple in Salt Lake City.
  • Route F453 will provide midday service from 2400 North park + ride in Tooele to 1940 West Station on the TRAX Green Line. Service will run every 60 minutes from approximately 8 AM to 4 PM, providing mid-day transit service between Salt Lake and Tooele counties.
  • Customers who currently catch route 453 from Tooele to downtown Salt Lake City should catch route 451 instead.
  • Customers who currently catch route 453 to the International Center, Airport, or North Temple should catch route 454 instead. Customers coming from Tooele will need to transfer from route 451 to route 454 at Benson Grist Mill park + ride.

University of Utah and VA Hospital

  • Route 21 will have expanded hours of service on all days: 15-minute service on weekdays and Saturdays, and 30-minute service on Sundays.
  • Route 4 will serve 400 South and Foothill Drive between Poplar Grove and Olympus Cove, via downtown and the University of Utah. The 4 will run seven days a week.
  • Route 223 will be increased to 30-minute service during rush hour (60-minute midday and evening). The route will be extended to serve Research Park, University Medical Center Station, and the Union Building.
  • Routes 313 and 354 will be streamlined at Mario Capecchi/Foothill to improve travel time.
  • Route 3 will no longer serve the VA Hospital parking lot. Service to the VA will be available via routes 3, 4, 313, and 354 on Foothill Dr.

University of Utah Hospital

  • Routes 2, 6, and 11 will continue to serve the University Hospital bus stop at the front entrance of the hospital.
  • Routes 2X, 213, 313, 354, and 473 will no longer serve the University Hospital bus stop due to a request by the hospital.
  • Service to the hospital will be available on routes 2X, 9, 17, 21, 213, 223, 313, 354, 473, and 902 at existing bus stops at University Medical Center Station.
  • To the extent possible, UTA has adjusted trip times to allow for increased walk time to the hospital on routes that no longer serve the front entrance of the hospital.

Downtown Ogden

  • The new Ogden Trolley, route 601, will connect destinations in downtown Ogden with Washington Blvd and Ogden Station. The route will use the new trolley buses currently in service on routes 628 and 667 (the Midtown Trolley and Lagoon Shuttle).
  • Ogden Trolley will run every 20 minutes weekdays and Saturdays.
  • New Flex route F620 will connect Ogden and Roy stations to previously unserved areas in West Haven and West Ogden via Midland Dr.

Lehi Station Thanksgiving Point

  • New route 871 will connect Lehi Station and Draper Town Center Station on the Blue Line to destinations in the Thanksgiving Point area, including the Outlets at Traverse Mountain.
  • Route 871 will also provide a local connection between Utah County and Salt Lake County throughout the day, 7 days a week.
  • Route 871 will run every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 60 minutes on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Route 864 will be expanded to serve more destinations in the area—including Mountain Point Medical Center and Xactware—and will receive new midday service on weekdays.
  • Route 811 will be discontinued. Customers who currently catch route 811 in this area should catch route 806 or route 871.
  • Route 850 will receive new Sunday service, with buses running every 60 minutes.

Route 228

  • Route 228 is being replaced by a combination of routes 3, 4, and 223.
  • New route 4 will serve 400 South and Foothill Drive between Poplar Grove and Olympus Cove, via downtown and the University of Utah. The 4 will run seven days a week.
  • Route 223 will be increased to 30-minute service during rush hour (60-minute midday and evening). The route will be extended to serve Research Park, University Medical Center Station, and the Union Building at the U.
  • Customers who currently catch route 228 from FrontRunner to Research Park should catch route 3 at North Temple Station instead.
  • Customers who currently catch route 228 on 400 South or Foothill Dr should catch route 4 to downtown or the U of U.
  • Customers who catch route 228 from East Millcreek to the U of U or Research Park should catch route 223 instead.
  • Customers in East Millcreek can also catch 15-minute service on routes 33, 39, or 45 to transfer to routes 4, 220, or 223.

Route 516

  • Route 516 is being replaced by a combination of routes 4 and 9.
  • New route 4 will serve 400 South and Foothill Drive between Poplar Grove and Olympus Cove, via downtown and the University of Utah. The 4 will run seven days a week.
  • Route 9 is being extended to serve Poplar Grove and Glendale. Route 9 will have extended hours of service on all days: 15-minute service weekdays and Saturdays, and 30-minute service on Sundays.
  • Customers who currently catch route 516 to downtown should catch route 4 instead, or use route 9 and transfer to TRAX at 900 South Station.
  • Customers who currently catch route 516 to Ballpark Station should catch route 9 to 900 South Station instead.

International Center

  • Routes 454 and 551 will provide 30-minute service to the International Center during rush hour.
  • Route F453 will provide 60-minute service to the International Center during the middle of the day.
  • Route 551 will be extended to serve Power Station on the TRAX Green Line, and will no longer serve the Airport.
  • Additional weekday trips, along with limited Saturday and Sunday trips, will be added to route 551 to accommodate additional worker shift times (Amazon).

Responses to Customer Feedback

  • UTA received a total number of 316 comments during the public comment period for August change day—thank you!
  • The most commented-on routes were routes 451 and 220. Between these two proposals, UTA received 161 comments, or 51% of the total.
  • In response to customer comments, UTA will discontinue stops on Country Club Dr in Stansbury Park to improve travel times on route 451. UTA will time the first route 451 trip in the morning to arrive to downtown Salt Lake City at the same time it does now.
  • UTA received both positive and negative comments about proposed changes to route 220. UTA has decided to move route 220 to 200 South as proposed to provide more frequent service and reduce overcrowding on 200 South.
