At-Grade Crossing Design

Notification per Utah Administrative Rule R930-5 of Changes to At-Grade Crossings Between 2100 S. TRAX Station and McClelland Street at Approximately 2200 S. in South Salt Lake and Salt Lake City

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is beginning construction on a new two-mile line segment streetcar line from the 2100 South TRAX station to the Sugar House commercial district near Highland Drive along a historic rail corridor located at 2235 South. There are stations planned at the 2100 South TRAX station, State Street, 300 East, 500 East, 700 East, 900 East and McClelland Street (1045 East). The construction of the Sugar House Streetcar line will change the current state of 12 at-grade crossings at approximately 2200 South in South Salt Lake and Salt Lake City.

A surveillance review team that included representatives from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), local municipalities and UTA has evaluated each of the 12 crossings affected by construction of the line.

Proposed crossing changes include: new track, minor grade changes and safety upgrades including the installation of traffic signals, stop signs and/or active warning devices at each applicable crossing as determined by the surveillance review team.

Please be advised that there will be construction along the historical corridor and at varying times at the grade crossings from May 2012 through December 2013. During this time the contractor will take every precaution to ensure the safety of the residents and traveling public as well as mitigate any impacts to traffic. After the construction has concluded regular streetcar operations will begin and traffic will be controlled by the safety devices installed as part of the project.
