With temperatures hovering near the triple digits, staying cool is more important than ever. We’ve got five tips to help you beat the heat while waiting for your air-conditioned UTA bus or train.

  1. Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water can help fight the effects of dehydration and heat exhaustion. As long as your water bottle has a lid or cap, you’re welcome to bring it onboard.
  2. Wear your sunscreen. Adults should apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or stronger to exposed skin 15 minutes before going outside, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. You can minimize your chances of getting sunburned by wearing a hat and lightweight, light-colored clothing that covers your arms and legs.
  3. Seek shade, or bring your own. UTA TRAX and FrontRunner stations have shade canopies where you can wait for the next train. If you’re waiting for the bus, consider bringing an umbrella to help shield the sun.
  4. Track your train or bus. Check UTA’s schedule so that you know when the next train or bus is due to arrive. You can even use an app to monitor the exact location of your ride. We keep passengers updated on significant train delays on our Twitter feed, www.twitter.com/RideUTA. If you have a long connection that leaves you out in the sun, give UTA’s customer service team a call at 801-RIDE-UTA. They may be able to help you find a more efficient route to your destination.
  5. Travel during cooler hours. When possible, try to schedule your trips in the morning or evening when the sun’s rays aren’t as strong.
