UTA’s Ride Clear program was created to encourage people to keep the air clean by using public transportation and driving less. Riding public transit and using other environmentally friendly modes of transportation helps reduce air pollution created by vehicle emissions, while also conserving fossil fuels:

The infographic uses a Federal Transportation Association study that estimates in regions like the Wasatch Front,  approximately 52 percent of passengers would drive if public transportation was not an option. Air pollutant and greenhouse gas estimates are based on the amounts of nitrous oxide, hydrocarbons, particulate matter and carbon dioxide released in vehicle emissions. Gallons of gasoline saved are based on an EPA study that uses a 24 mile-per-gallon average for cars.

UTA would like to thank everyone who has left their cars at home and opted for eco-friendly transit in the month of July. Together, we can help residents of the Wasatch Front breathe a little easier. UTA’s Ride Clear program was made possible by generous support from Zions Bank.
