UTA recently announced limited Sunday service on FrontRunner to the bi-annual Air Show at Hill Air Force Base. We’d like to thank Air Show organizers for subsidizing the cost of this service, allowing us to provide fans with an additional public transportation option. UTA will offer extra trains to facilitate FrontRunner service to and from the show on Saturday, June 25, as well as three FrontRunner trips before and after the show on Sunday, June 26.

We often receive requests to offer Sunday service on FrontRunner. We appreciate our riders’ desire for additional service and agree that expanding public transit is a critical component in improving air quality and reducing traffic congestion along the Wasatch Front.

At this time, funding to add regular Sunday service on FrontRunner is not available. As our budget allows, we’ll evaluate public demand and ridership potential to determine where additional service can provide the greatest benefit to as many people as possible.

UTA’s commuter rail employees use Sundays to conduct a thorough inspection of FrontRunner track as mandated by the Federal Rail Administration. These inspections take between eight to 12 hours to complete and require careful observation of everything from rail switches to signaling. Sundays are also used for positive train control improvements, bridge work and system maintenance and improvement. Conducting this work during service hours would increase maintenance costs and impact regular operations, slowing trains and creating system delays.

We appreciate customer input on these and other public transit issues. In response to public demand, we’ve recently extended TRAX and S-Line hours of operation, renewed our FAREPAY bus and rail discount and redesigned our website to add user-friendly features. We invite you to share your thoughts with us on our official comment form and social media. Thank you for your continued support – we’ll see you on UTA.
