Last week, UTA learned about the loss of a beloved and respected employee to tragic circumstances. Kay Porter Ricks joined UTA in 2010 as an electromechanic and later accepted a job in the maintenance of way department. Kay was a dedicated employee who was well respected in his department and known for his willingness to help others. He leaves behind a wife, three sons and six grandchildren.

UTA is taking a number of steps to honor Kay this weekend as memorial services are held. We appreciate the support of our riders and the community as UTA employees remember Kay and pay our respects his family.

  • At approximately noon on Saturday, May 28, UTA will hold a brief service stand down. Trains and buses will stop as we recognize a moment of silence for Kay. A short message will be read by the bus or train operator. We do not anticipate that this service stand down will cause notable delays or impacts to service.
  • On Friday, May 27, and Saturday, May 28, UTA vehicles will run with their headlights on. Flags on UTA property will remain at half-staff from sunrise to sundown both days.

Thank you for your understanding as the entire UTA family wishes to honor our fellow employee. UTA continues to express its sincere condolences and support to Kay's family. He will be greatly missed.
