###Change day is Sunday, August 14, and with it will come new Saturday service on six flex routes. The additions to service will give riders improved weekend access to shopping, hospitals, TRAX and FrontRunner stations and local attractions like the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium.

Saturday service on routes F94, F514, F504, F578, F556 and F618 will be funded through a combination of federal Job Access and Reverse Commute and New Freedom grants and matching UTA funds. The grants are designed to improve off-peak transportation for people in need and increase public transit options for people with disabilities.

UTA Special Services Senior Planner Arland Jensen said the decision to use the grant funding for Saturday service was due, in part, to rider feedback.

“By far, the most common request we receive from flex route riders is for Saturday service,” he said.

Jensen said routes F94, F514, F504, F578, F556 were selected to receive Saturday service because they provide access to shopping and entertainment centers – places weekend riders typically want to go. Saturday service was added to route F618 to provide transportation to people who work Saturdays at the Business Depot Ogden.

Planners will track Saturday ridership on the newly improved routes, Jensen said, and will seek additional funding to continue Saturday service if the routes are well utilized.

The six Saturday flex routes will run every sixty minutes during peak times. Unlike regular bus routes, flex buses can deviate up to ¾ mile from their regular routes. These deviations must be scheduled in advance and cost $1.25.
