On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Utah State Capitol will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a gala. The event is free and open to the public. Due to limited parking, UTA will operate Route 500 on a special route Saturday, beginning at 4 p.m., to give visitors a convenient way to attend the ceremonies.

Route 500 normally operates only on weekdays and serves Salt Lake Central Station. Saturday’s modified route will allow people to either park downtown and take the Route 500 bus to the Capitol, or easily transfer from TRAX at Courthouse Station or from FrontRunner at North Temple Station.

Route 500 is located in the Free Fare Zone, so no payment is necessary for those who directly board within the Free Fare Zone. Riders transferring from TRAX or FrontRunner will need to purchase a regular fare. UTA’s Group Pass allows up to four people to ride round-trip for only $15.

The “Commemorating a Century Gala” begins at 6 p.m. with a special program in the Capitol rotunda. The gala begins at 7:30 p.m. and ends at 9. Route 500 will operate every 30 minutes until approximately 20 minutes after the ceremonies end.

The festivities are part of a series of events, including open houses and a Capitol Discovery Day for families, being held this week to celebrate the building’s 100th anniversary,
