Your card will not be charged. Please note that card readers may still show a green light when tapped.
Why can’t you offer free fare every Friday, or every red air day?
We depend on fare revenue to operate our service. This event is sponsored by the Salt Lake City Council, Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office and UTA. We could not offer free fare without the financial support of our partners. We hope this event encourages riders to try public transit and make it a part of their regular travel routines, especially during inversion season. We are also exploring options to encourage more riders to use public transit before and during poor air quality days.
Plan ahead - We expect heavy crowds on Friday. Please allow extra time when traveling. Note that train capacity includes sitting and standing room – not all passengers will have seats, especially on busy days like Free Fare Friday. Please don’t hold doors open, as it can delay the train. You can plan your trip using our trip planner or call 801-743-3882 for assistance.
