In an effort to improve air quality and alleviate parking concerns, UTA is offering 15-minute frequency weekday service on route 500 to the Utah State Capitol during the 2019 legislative session. This “Capitol Connector” service will run Monday through Friday from January 28 through March 14, providing riders with convenient connections from between the Capitol and FrontRunner, TRAX and other bus routes. The extra service is designed to reduce parking congestion at the Capitol and encourage those attending the session to leave their cars at home and ride public transit during inversion season.

“We know the Capitol is a busy place during this time of year, and we know air quality is a big concern,” said Steve Meyer, UTA Interim Executive Director. “This is a great, frequent service providing those traveling to the Capitol during the legislation session the chance to join our riders in improving air quality.”

Route 500 is located in UTA’s Free Fare Zone. The route 500 connects to all TRAX lines at Courthouse Station and to FrontRunner at North Temple Station, allowing riders to make an easy connection from light rail and commuter rail.

Adding extra service for the legislative session is just one of the ways UTA is working to improve air quality along the Wasatch Front. Later this year, UTA will unveil three new all-electric buses with zero tailpipe emissions.

“We continue to work with our communities and our elected officials to find opportunities to enhance service and encourage more people to use transit,” Meyer said. “UTA averages 45,396 riders each weekday in Salt Lake County, and we’re committed to providing the best service and helping people get to where they need to go. We recognize the need for more service and more access to transit, and are committed to work with community leaders to find ways to meet these demands and maintain our region’s high quality of life.”
