Project Overview
The Taylorsville-Murray Transit Alternatives Analysis began in June 2008. The purpose of the analysis is to evaluate transit alternatives for the area between State Street to 2700 West, 3900 South to 5400 South. The study area has 12,000 households and businesses with 27,000 employees. By the year 2040, households and employment in the area is anticipated to grow to 15,000 and 39,000 respectively. Additionally, the study area is the site of multiple public and private colleges and a new, large regional hospital.
In a collaborative effort, UTA, WFRC, Salt Lake County, the Cities of Taylorsville and Murray are working towards the development of a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) tailored to the needs, opportunities and constraints of the study area.
Alternatives Analysis
The study will accomplish the following tasks:
- Understand the transportation problems in the study area
- Identify the need for transit in the study area
- Analyze where people are traveling to and from the study
- Talking with members of the public and key stakeholders in the study area to learn more about how transit should fit within the context of their communities
- Develop transit alternatives to meet the transportation needs of the community
- Evaluate the alternatives to select the most reasonable alternative for the community
- Give guidance on implementation strategies and supporting land use changes
The project’s Steering Committee, which includes members from Salt Lake County, Wasatch Front Regional Council, UDOT, UTA and the cities of Taylorsville and Murray, will provide guidance and direction for the project. The study team will also work with a Stakeholder Committee, including members from the following businesses and organizations:
