UTA Train Host, Ken Willis, nominated Bruce Coziar for April Rider of the Month. “Mr. Coziar rides to the FrontRunner North Temple station every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. He works as a security guard at City Creek Mall. He is always so polite and friendly with the other riders. Plus, he is willing to help me take care of the other riders when the need arises. Bruce is an all-around great guy.”

Bruce was born and raised in Tremonton, Utah. He received a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering and Chemistry. After graduating, he decided to switch careers and move to Italy to obtain a Culinary Arts and Business Management Degree.

He worked for three years as a chef, hotel and restaurant manager in Europe before moving back to Utah to help his parents. His pathway shifted again when he decided to take a management position at Walmart in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, Bruce received his third degree in Mathematics and Physics, as well as obtained a Gunsmith Certificate.

Life drastically changed after Bruce got in a fatal motorcycle accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene, but first responders revived him. He was in a coma for a year before he woke up. He soon found out that he was legally blind, and his bones were broken all over his body. After a long recovery and more metal plates, he returned back home to Ogden, Utah. He enjoys working as a security guard at City Creek Center and rebuilding his 1990 Toyota truck.

How long have you been riding?

Bruce has been riding FrontRunner and TRAX for the past 5 years.

Why do you ride?

“I live in Ogden and ride FrontRunner back and forth to get to my job as a security guard at City Creek,” says Mr. Coziar. “I see well enough to get to and from home and work. For some reason, Utah doesn’t want blind people driving on the freeway. I rely one-hundred percent on UTA to get me to everywhere I need to go.”

Any tips or suggestions for riders?

Bruce stated, “Traffic is horrendous. Ride the bus or train. It is so much safer. UTA is reliable to get you where you need to go if you plan ahead.”
