UTA bus route 603 runs from the heart of Ogden’s downtown area to the city’s east bench, providing a connection from FrontRunner and the Ogden Transit Center to Weber State University and McKay Dee Hospital. Along the way, it passes historic Union Station, the Ogden City buildings, and Ogden High School, an Art Deco landmark.

This 6.5-mile route is one of Weber County’s busiest, with an average 1,610 weekday boardings in 2017. Route 603 runs seven days a week and features 15-minute service on weekdays and Saturdays and 30-minute service on Sundays.

Over the past several years, UTA used Prop 1 funds to improve frequency on route 603. In April 2016, weekday evening service frequency was improved and the span of service was extended to midnight. In August 2017, Sunday service increased from 60 to 30 minutes. As a result, said UTA Senior Service Planner Trevan Blaisdell, weekday evening ridership has increased by more than 17 percent and Sunday ridership has increased by nearly 40 percent. UTA has also used Prop 1 funds to add bus shelters, benches and garbage cans to stops along the route.

Route 603 has been serving Ogden for decades, but riders might see changes in the future. Blaisdell said that due to the popularity of the route, it has been earmarked to become a bus rapid transit corridor as funding becomes available. BRT routes run in dedicated lanes and offer frequent service, allowing the bus to transport riders quickly and avoid traffic congestion.
