UTA’s service isn’t just about moving you from place to place; we also want to provide an easy, enjoyable, and accessible transit experience for all our customers. To make sure that riders feel safe and confident on our transit system, there are different UTA employees available to help.

Learn who you might see while riding UTA and how they can help you with your trip.

Transit Ambassador

Transit ambassadors are UTA employees who are available on our public transit system — either on vehicles or at stations and stops — to answer questions and help riders get where they’re going.

UTA has a few different ambassador programs to support riders in different situations.

TRAX Ambassador
TRAX ambassadors are a new pilot program launching in early 2024. They will provide support to riders on the TRAX Blue Line in Salt Lake City, with focused training to support riders with customer information, resources, and referrals. They will also be specifically equipped to support riders who are experiencing homelessness or other barriers and who need access to resources. UTA service is invaluable to riders who may have no other options for transportation, and TRAX ambassadors connect riders to other resources such as shelter, food, justice services, and more. Event Ambassador
Event ambassadors are UTA employees who go out in the transit system as needed to help riders navigate during events that cause a surge in ridership, such as concerts, sporting events, and other occasions where public transit plays a major role in moving people from place to place.

Detour Ambassador
Occasionally, a station or rail crossing may need to be closed for scheduled maintenance or repairs. When this happens, detour ambassadors are available to help riders navigate around the closed station by taking a bus bridge — a dedicated bus that carries riders to the next available station.

Service Disruption Ambassador
Sometimes, situations arise outside of UTA’s control that cause disruptions to our rail service. When possible, UTA employees act as service disruption ambassadors who go out to the affected rail stations and help riders get around the disruption by taking alternate options such as buses or vans.

Train Host

Train hosts work on FrontRunner trains and platforms. They monitor trains and platforms for safety or security issues, provide customer service and answer questions, assist riders who have disabilities, and provide a range of other helpful services. Train hosts wear UTA uniforms and walk through the train as it travels so riders can interact with them as needed.

Travel Trainer

UTA has dedicated travel trainers who teach riders how to ride the different modes of transportation. These services are available for anyone who wants to learn more about riding UTA and can be tailored to meet the needs of different riders or communities. One-on-one sessions and group sessions are available. Travel training can also include a “train the trainer” session; one of our travel trainers will teach an organization’s staff to train their own students or clients to use the UTA system. UTA Police

UTA police officers are state-certified law enforcement officers who are responsible for safety and security on board UTA vehicles and on UTA property.

The UTA Police Department has four divisions:

  • Patrol officers monitor stations and facilities and respond to calls from dispatch.
  • Investigative officers follow up on reports filed by the patrol officers.
  • K9 officers work with police dogs trained in explosive detection.
  • Fare inspectors are responsible for checking that riders have paid their fare.
(Note: fare inspectors are not law enforcement officers; UTA police officers may also check for fare payment.)
