UTA Press Releases

UTA To Make Adjustments To Bus and Rail Services
12/10/2009

Service changes include the beginning of seasonal ski service

Beginning Sunday, Dec. 13, Utah Transit Authority will make a number of changes to its bus, TRAX and FrontRunner services. UTA will also begin regular ski service to resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons. Major changes are given below by service type. For a full list of changes, go to www.rideuta.com/changeday.

TRAX

Effective Dec. 13, Saturday TRAX service will be changed to 20-minute frequency. Weekday departure times will also be adjusted slightly. See schedule for details.

Effective Jan. 3, late night trips on Fridays and Saturdays will be discontinued. The last northbound train from Sandy will depart at 11 p.m. The last southbound train to Sandy will depart from Salt Lake Central Station at 11:14 p.m. On the University Line, the last westbound train will depart Medical Center for Salt Lake Central at 11:03 p.m. The last eastbound train will depart Salt Lake Central at 11:24 p.m. See schedule for details.

UTA will continue Friday/Saturday late night trips through Jan. 2 to accommodate holiday travelers.

FrontRunner

Effective Dec. 13, the first Saturday trip in each direction will be eliminated.

Service between Ogden and Pleasant View will also be adjusted, with one round trip in the morning and one in the afternoon discontinued. However, the remaining Pleasant View trips will be served by direct Salt Lake trains and riders will no longer have to transfer in Ogden.

Bus

Effective Dec. 13, many routes will have slightly adjusted arrival and departure times to improve reliability. Some minor routing changes will also occur. See schedules for details.

Several trips will be cut from routes 472 and 474 providing express service from Ogden to Salt Lake. These trips are being cancelled due to the redundant service offered on FrontRunner and UTA budget considerations.

Ski Service

UTA regular ski service will also begin starting Dec. 13. Ten ski routes serve resorts in Little and Big Cottonwood canyons, including Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude. UTA also provides service to Sundance Ski Resort in Utah County.

Route connections in Salt Lake County may be made from downtown Salt Lake City, the University of Utah, 4500 South TRAX, 7200 South TRAX, 10000 South TRAX and park and ride lots located at 10600 South & I-15 and 6200 South & Wasatch Boulevard. See schedule for times, other transfer locations and routing details.

Some service changes are being made to increase efficiency and reliability. Other changes are being implemented to reduce operational expenses, as UTA is facing significant reductions in sales tax revenues due to the economic recession. UTA is focusing service reductions on off-peak, lower-ridership trips and redundant service, in an effort to minimize impacts to riders as much as possible.
