We’re excited to announce our first round of winners in the student iPad giveaway. If you didn’t receive an iPad this month, don’t worry. Students from select universities and colleges who make at least 10 round trips on UTA using their student passes will be automatically entered into the giveaway. Names will be drawn every month until April 2014.
The giveaway is designed to encourage students to opt for public transit when commuting to campus. Riding UTA’s buses and trains to school allows students to save money, help the environment and avoid traffic and crowded campus parking lots. You can find more information about our student pass program here.
Weber State University: Faisal Alghamdi
Utah Valley University: Yadira Balvin
Brigham Young University: Danielle Reschke
LDS Business College: Derick Bradley and Susan Williams*
Salt Lake Community College: Sheridan Davis
University of Utah: Jane Kanahele and Tamara Schwarting*
Danielle Reschke was our October winner from Brigham Young University. The dietetics and nutrition student said that UTA helps her make ends meet on a limited student budget.
“I don’t have enough money to buy a car, insurance, and gas, and the bus takes me where I need to go without a car. It also runs from early in the morning to late at night, so no matter how late I’m on campus, I know that I’ll be able to get home,” Reschke said.
Yadira Balvin, a community health major at Utah Valley University, uses the 862 and 805 to commute from Spanish Fork to campus. She said that the bus drivers are one of her favorite things about UTA.
“The people that drive the bus I take are really kind,” Balvin said.
If you’d like to be eligible for next month’s giveaway, simply make at least 10 round trips on UTA bus, TRAX or FrontRunner trains using your student pass. Be sure to tap your pass at a card reader each time you board or exit the bus or train. The card readers will register the tapped card number and identify which cardholders are eligible for the monthly iPad drawing. We’ll announce November’s winners on Dec. 15.
*Please note that UTA is partnering with LDS Business College and the University of Utah’s current iPad giveaways to increase Ed Pass and Student Pass ridership, so two winners were selected from these schools.
