Art in Transit, the public art program of the Utah Transit Authority (UTA), is an integral part of UTA's Rail Capital Projects. UTA and its Art in Transit partners have commissioned public art at 22 station sites in conjunction with three light rail projects in Salt Lake County. These works of art enhance UTA passenger's traveling experience as well as showcase elements of community identity, history and values.

Request For Qualifications For UTA ART in Transit--A Public Art Program

ARTIST QUALIFICATION MATERIALS DUE BY APRIL 17, 2009 2:00 PM MDT

The Utah Transit Authority is building the FrontLines 2015 project featuring 70 miles of rail projects in the next seven years.  The FrontLines 2015 project will feature the 45-mile FrontRunner South commuter rail line and four light rail lines: Mid-Jordan line, West Valley line, Airport line and Draper line.  This request for qualifications will focus on public art opportunities for the FrontRunner South line and the federally-funded Mid-Jordan line**.  Commission amounts range from $20,000 to $90,000.  Finalists will be selected from qualifications and be paid an honorarium to develop and submit a proposal.  Commissions will be awarded to select finalists based on their proposal.  If you are an artist with public art commission experience, we invite you to submit your qualification materials.

Qualification materials postmarked after April 17, 2009, will not be considered for commission. 

Please include the following in your qualification materials:

  • Current resume or curricula vitae listing pertinent experience, commissions or honors received
  • Maximum of 10 digital images (jpeg format preferred) of representative artworks on a cd or dvd
  • Description sheet of images submitted that include material(s), medium and scale.

Issuance of this notice does not commit the parties above indicated to award any contracts, to pay any costs incurred in the preparation of a response, or to procure or contract for services or supplies. The parties above mentioned reserve the right to waive any minor irregularities and informalities, to reject any and all proposals for sound business reasons, to advertise as applicable, and to make awards in the best interest of the Project.

**The artists (contractors) selected for the Mid-Jordan line will be required to comply with all applicable equal employment laws and regulations. UTA in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, and 49CFR, Part 23, will afford Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE's) full opportunity to respond and will not discriminate against any interested firm or persons on the basis of race, color, sex, or national origin in the review of qualifications or contract award. If subcontracting, qualified firms will be required to address the utilization of DBE's in their proposals. UTA's DBE goal for this procurement is Race Neutral IF subcontracting is involved.
