Ed Pass

As of January 1, 2009, students, faculty and staff of schools participating in the UTA Ed Pass program will be required to begin using UTA's electronic fare collection system (EFC).

All Ed Pass cards issued for the 2008-2009 school year are electronic cards enabled for use on the new EFC system. Most participating schools have issued separate Ed Pass cards for use on UTA's system. However, student ID's for Utah Valley University and Westminster College are electronic cards that have been enabled to work with UTA's EFC system; the Ed Pass features are built in so no separate card is required. See below for the rules associated with your school.

Tap on. Tap off. When using the new EFC system, be sure to tap on when boarding and tap off when exiting to validate your fare. Card readers will be located at each door on every UTA bus and at the entrances to all TRAX and FrontRunner stations. Tapping on and tapping off sends a message about which routes you use most, so that UTA can better evaluate and improve service. Cards not properly validated may be deactivated and require reactivation by the card issuer.

Beta Testers. Even though you will not be required to use the EFC system until Jan. 1, many readers have already been installed on buses and train platforms and are in operational testing. Help us out in beta testing by tapping your Ed Pass to the reader! You will be allowed to board regardless of how the reader responds to the test.

Need help? If your card does not work or has been disabled, contact your school for assistance. See also the Electronic Fare FAQ for answers to common questions.
