Proposed Changes and Adjustments to Rail Services - April 2010
UTA is planning service adjustments to FrontRunner and proposing changes to the direct Sandy to University TRAX line. These adjustments are focused on off-peak and lower ridership service, and are part of the effort to address reduced sales tax revenues due to the economic recession.
TRAX
UTA will hold three public hearings to propose service reductions to the TRAX route 703 – direct Sandy to University trains on Feb. 11, 16 and 17. See public notice for hearing details. Proposed changes would go into effect April 5, 2010.
Proposed service reductions to the TRAX route 703 – direct Sandy to University trains:
- Elimination of mid-day trips between approximately 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
- Elimination of evening trips after 5 p.m. (to University) or 6 p.m. (to Sandy).

No service reductions have been proposed to TRAX routes 701 – Sandy to SL Central, or 702 – University to Salt Lake Central trains.
- UTA will continue to provide 15 min frequency on weekdays to destinations on the Sandy and University lines.
- Riders travelling from Sandy to the University of Utah and back will continue to have all day service, but may need to transfer trains at Gallivan Plaza.

FrontRunner
Minor adjustments on FrontRunner will go into effect on April 5. These changes include:
- One new early morning trip at 4:16 a.m. from Ogden. The addition is based on customer demand for an earlier weekday trip to Salt Lake. Riders can connect to downtown and the University of Utah on bus routes 2 and 200 at Salt Lake Central station.
- Mid-day service reduced to hourly during off peak hours
- Change to hourly after 8:57 a.m. trip northbound and after 10:16 a.m. trip southbound
- Resume 30 minute service after 12:57 p.m. trip northbound and after 3:16 p.m. trip southbound
- Hourly evening service will begin earlier
- After 6:57 p.m. northbound
- After 8:16 p.m. southbound
- Last northbound trip will be at 10:57 p.m. and last southbound trip at 11:16 p.m.
- On Saturdays, UTA will continue to provide hourly service but all times will be shifted by 30 minutes for better connections
- Pleasant View evening trips will require a transfer at Ogden station
