Curb installation on University Parkway

Eastbound: Sidewalk, irrigation and landscaping installations continue from 400 W. to Main Street. Storm drain and lighting installations, traffic signal work and utility relocations continue from Main St. to 200 E. Utility relocations continue on the Chevron property just west of State St.

Westbound: Sidewalk prep and placement, paving and landscaping are planned next week from 400 W. to Main St. Concrete finish work and parking lot striping are planned next week at the Mazda dealership.

Traffic Impacts

  • Dec. 13-14: Weather permitting, Univ. Pkwy will be restriped between 400 W. and 200 E. in Orem the night of Dec. 13. As of Thursday, Dec. 14, traffic will be switched from the inside to the outside lanes in this section.
  • Left-turns are permitted only at signalized intersections. Left-turns are not permitted in mid-block sections over solid double yellow lines. Please be safe and make left-turns into businesses only at traffic lights.
  • Business accesses are being maintained. On-street parking has been eliminated.
  • Sidewalk is closed on both sides of Univ. Pkwy between State St. and Main St. in Orem and pedestrians are detoured to 1200 S.

University Parkway Diagonal (800 East, Orem - University Avenue, Provo)

BRT station construction at 550 W./2230 N.

Median storm drain installation continues on the upper diagonal.

BRT station construction continues east of 550 W.

Irrigation installations continue from Carterville bridge to Freedom Blvd.

Reconstruction of the outer sections of the Provo River bridge continues.

Curb/gutter and sidewalk installations continue from Freedom Blvd. to Univ. Ave.

Traffic Impacts

  • Traffic has been shifted to the outside lanes along the Univ. Pkwy diagonal to accommodate reconstruction in the roadway median. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds(40 MPH speed limit) and watch for lane shifts. Left-turns are permitted into businesses only at signalized intersections.

Trail Impacts

  • The Provo River Parkway Trail is opened under the University Parkway bridge.
  • The College Connector trail is opened on the new surface down the diagonal.

Bus Detours

  • Bus stops in the area of 550 W. University Parkway have been temporarily discontinued, and temporary stops (817036 and 817086) on the detour using 2230 N. are in place.

FINISHED PRODUCT

When the new bridge and roadway are complete, there will be three traffic lanes in each direction and room for the BRT in the middle. The College Connector bike route will provide bike access throughout this area.

Brigham Young University (900 East)

Preliminary work for BRT station construction is expected to begin by mid-December on Univ. Pkwy for stadium and Missionary Training Center stations and the 900 N./700 E. station.

700 North Provo (700 North - 500 South)

Sidewalk and landscaping installations continue along the 700 N. corridor.

BRT station construction continues at 400 E.

Traffic Impacts

  • The new traffic light at the intersection of 700 N./400 E. is now operational. Pedestrians may now cross the street aided by the new pedestrian signals.
  • 700 N. is opened to thru-traffic from Univ. Ave. to 700 E. Roadway shoulders remain closed. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and watch for construction vehicles and equipment.
  • On-street parking is NOT permitted along 700 N. between Univ. Ave. and 700 E. Citations will be issued for vehicles parked in this zone.
  • Pedestrian access is being maintained at intersections. To maintain public safety, pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to stay out of the roadway work zone and remain on the sidewalk and walkways at intersections.

Bus Detours

  • UTA bus Routes 830 and 831 will use 800 N. between 700 E. and University Ave.

University Avenue Provo (700 North - 500 South)

Paving prep on University Avenue

Concrete paving is curing southbound from 200 N. to 300 N. and it is expected that business parking in this section will be opened from Dec. 12 through the holidays.

Removals and utility relocations continue southbound from 300 N. to 400 N. and have begun southbound from 500 N. to 750 N.

Curb/sidewalk installations continue northbound from 400 N. to 700 N.

Concrete paving is underway northbound from 400 S. to Center St.

Traffic Impacts

  • The western leg of the Univ. Ave./200 N. intersection and eastern leg of the Univ. Ave./200 S. intersection are closed for reconstruction. Business access is maintained.
  • Roadway shoulder closures are effective in the Univ. Ave. work zones and on-street parking is restricted. All travel lanes remain opened and business accesses are being maintained.
  • Alternate business parking is available at locations shown on the map below as well as the opposite sides of Univ. Ave. from where construction is occurring. Sidewalk access to store fronts is being maintained and flaggers re present to assist pedestrians in some areas.

Storm drain installation is underway for BRT station construction at the 180 E. intersection.
