The new trip planner now offers four different ways to plan a trip. Here are some tips to assist you in navigating your trip plan:
Map: To use the map feature, move your mouse to the map. You can left-click and drag your mouse to move the map. Use the scroll button on your mouse to zoom in or zoom out. You can also zoom by using the + and - zoom bar located in the left-hand side of the map. To select a starting point or ending point left-click your mouse at a desired location. A small window will open. Select the text "From here" or "To here". Once a position on the map has been selected, the address will populate into the address field in the left hand column of the Trip Planner.
Address: Plan your trip using the address tab. This tab is selected by default when you open up the Trip Planner web page. To begin, type your address into the blank address field. Our technology uses type-ahead software. As you type, a drop-down menu of matching addresses will appear. Make sure to always abbreviate East, West, North and South (E, W, N and S). For example, to enter the address 550 East 300 South, the user should type ‘500 e 300 s’. Once an address has been successfully entered you will notice the address will be indicated on the map with a green icon.
Landmark: To plan your trip using the Landmark feature you must first select the Landmark tab. The Landmark feature is a database of thousands of pre-loaded popular addresses. After selecting the Landmark tab you will be prompted to select a Landmark Category from the drop-down menu. After selecting a Landmark Category you will be prompted to select a Popular Location. Once selected, you will notice your selection will be indicated on the map with a green icon.
Stop: To use the stop feature make sure the stop tab is selected. In order to use the stop feature you will first need to know the UTA Stop ID number associated with the UTA stop you will be using to plan your trip. Simply type the bus stop ID number into the field and select the address as it populates below. Please note: you can locate all UTA bus stop ID's by using Google Maps. This can be accomplished by locating a UTA stop on Google Maps, and then left-clicking on the UTA stop icon. A small window will open which contains the bus stop ID number. All UTA stop ID numers are also located on the physical UTA sign at each stop. Once a valid UTA stop has been selected, you will notice your selection will be indicated on the map with a green icon.
Trip Details: Once both addresses have been successfully recognized by the Trip Planner, the user has the ability to filter the details of their trip.
Depart/Arrive: Select the radio button for how you would like the Trip Planner to calculate your itinerary. You can either select a time you would like to depart, or a time that you would like to arrive at a destination. Please note: Because UTA buses and Trains operate on a fixed schedule the Trip Planner may produce itineraries earlier or later than the time you indicated.
Date: Simply click the small Calendar icon to select the date you will be traveling. Please note: The Trip Planner will not plan trips more than 30 days into the future.
Time: Use the time drop-down menus to select the time that you wish to either depart or arrive at your destination.
Advanced Options: Use this feature to filter results. The Trip Planner automatically default to show the fastest itinerary first. Using this tool the user can manipulate the results to show the least amount of walking or the least amount of transfers.
Modes of Travel: Use this feature to filter the mode of transportation you wish to use. Selecting Bus only will produce results that only include UTA bus service. Selecting Rail only will produce results that only include UTA TRAX, Streetcar, or FrontRunner. Select both Bus and Rail to include all UTA services in your trip plan. Please note: selecting Rail only will only work for trips starting and ending near rail stations.
Reset: Use the reset button to clear all fields on the form.
Get Trip Plan: This is the last step in planning your trip. Click this button to calculate your submissions in the fields above.
