The Utah Food Bank needs your help now more than ever. Donations decrease during summer months. At the same time, many schools close for the season, leaving families unable to use school meal programs to meet their children’s nutritional needs. According to the Utah Food Bank, 15 percent of Utahns don’t know where their next meal will come from.

Riders who donate food will receive an electronic FAREPAY card loaded with $5. Cards will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The FAREPAY cards can be registered and reloaded with any amount of money between $5 and $500. Riders who use FAREPAY to pay when riding UTA receive 40 percent off bus, TRAX and S-Line fare and up to 20 percent off FrontRunner fare.

UTA employees are joining together to kick off the food drive on Tuesday, July 26, by offering their own donations to help “fill the bus”. The two buses used for the food drive were recently retrofitted for the recent Veterans Administration Wheelchair Games by removing some of the seats for wheelchair access. The buses will now be filled with Utah Food Bank barrels. The original seats will be replaced in the two vehicles after the food drive is complete.
