The Utah Transit Authority has led the public transit industry in Utah for over 40 years and continues to set trends in this unique arena both nationally and internationally, with UTA being named Outstanding Public Transportation Agency of the Year by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) four times, more than any other transit agency. The agency received the APTA honor in 1986, 1996, 2002 and 2014.

Recognized as an employer of choice, UTA is excited to continue efforts in its positive contribution to the community and environment by providing an excellent customer service experience for its 46 million riders per year, system wide.

With total average weekday boardings of over 62,000 riding our buses, our operators are the face of UTA. Safety and excellent customer service are the top priority for this position and UTA is working diligently to identify and hire the best and brightest for this critical role.

UTA bus operators enjoy many benefits that may not be known to the general public. For example, UTA provides a free medical clinic to our full-time bus operators and their immediate family members from their first day of employment; no co-pay, no fees, whatsoever. UTA even houses its own pharmacy and provides free prescription medications as well. In addition to the free medical clinic, full-time bus operators enjoy benefits such as a 457 deferred retirement account, pension, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, an employee assistance program, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation/personal time off, wellness programs, on-site fitness centers, retiree medical account, day care assistance and free transit passes for themselves and their spouse and children up to age 23.

In addition to these amazing benefits, UTA pays for the CDL training that is required to become an operator. After successfully completing the training, the bus operator wage is $17.76 per hour with guaranteed pay increases every six months for 5 years up to $23.69 per hour. Contrary to what some may think, no previous CDL experience is required!
